Missouri Freedom Initiative

Hey gang, its Tuesday early evening as I write this and I am hearing from Representatives that tomorrow will be a “technical day” in the Missouri House. Basically that means attendance is not mandatory and reps simply need to “check in” to get credit for their per diem. This is most likely still tied to weather conditions. I think it might be a good idea to cancel Knock and Shock for tomorrow and re-schedule it for January 30th. This will give people time to request a day off of work again. I am truly sorry about all this, this is devastating to me personally. Before the news of the weather was starting to come in last Thursday, we were going to be over 80 folks for the 9th. Many phone calls, texts and email cancellations for Knock and Shock folks started coming in on Friday, continuing through the weekend. 80 folks for Knock and Shock for silver and gold legislation would have gotten a LOT of attention. Let’s see if we can hit that number on January 30. We should probably setup a backup date of January 31st.

I am still going to the capitol tomorrow to testify for Senator Eigel’s SB735 (12:00 in the Senate Lounge). Details are here. The Veterans, Military Affairs and Pensions committee is hearing the bill. For Senate hearings, you must testify in person, there are no witness forms. You can, however, contact members of the committee in favor of the bill. You can find all the committee members here. Everyone is welcome to come testify for SB735.

I will also have a few meetings with some Reps and Senators while there and distribute our flyers that were printed for Knock and Shock. Retha is going up with me and is going to meet with the state Auditor’s office. We will leave Jefferson City around 5 PM and head out to Swiss, Missouri. In Swiss, Retha will be presenting data on Gasconade RI and RII school districts’ financial shenanigans to folks in the towns and county folks there. Anyone is welcome to attend.

Even though this Knock and Shock event is cancelled what we can do in the meantime is VERY meaningful and timely and critical. Bills in the House are getting committee assignments now. Interestingly enough HB1955 with 17 co-sponsors isn’t moving yet. We need to continue phone call and email pressure on Representatives to co-sponsor HB1955, but at the same time, we need to ask our Representatives to personally visit with Dean Plocher and ask for HB1955 to be assigned to Doug Richie’s Special Committee on Government Accountability as it was heard in that very same committee last year. This is a favorable committee for silver and gold legislation end enjoys tremendous support there. If your Representative has already co-sponsored, please contact them again and ask them to help with the committee assignment. Ask your representative to get back with you with feedback on their request of Dean Plocher. If you do not hear back from them within 2-3 business days, contact them again. This is very important and we need to start working on this right away. This kind of information and this kind of grassroots action is precisely why it’s so important to be on this email list. Here’s the House Roster to contact your Representative.

May God bless us all with good health and with wisdom and courage.
