Hey gang! Nothing like a mid-week update. Several things are going on so I thought I would send out a reminder email.
Tomorrow (January 8) is the swearing into office of folks that were elected in November. This all takes place at the Missouri Capital in Jefferson City. Traditionally, grassroots folks tend to show up to enjoy the festivities and introduce themselves to newly elected legislators. It is also a good opportunity to get co-sponsors on bills. For the Constitutional Money Act, there are 2 bills that we’d love to see co-sponsors on. Firstly, Senator Mike Moon’s SB25 and secondly, Representative Bill Hardwick’s HB433. It is unclear if I can make it up there tomorrow (based on work schedule) so if anyone is going up, remember to ask for co-sponsorships for these bills that represent the best of the bills for the Constitutional Money Act.
The Missouri Freedom Initiative’s first Knock and Shock campaign will be on January 15 (Next Wednesday). I am currently working on the full color flyers we will be distributing. It will be done before our live stream on Saturday, the 11th so everyone can see it before the event. I will have these flyers printed for the event. The mission on the 15th is to introduce ourselves to newly elected legislators, promote the Constitutional Money Act (as well as the other bills selected by the group this past Saturday) AND get co-sponsors for both bills (SB25 and HB433). I intend to make a two flyers, one for the House and one for the Senate.
I will attempt to get a meeting with the newly elected House Speaker (if possible) scheduled in advance to talk about the Constitutional Money Act and the benefits for Missourians that this bill provides.
In regards to the House speaker, tomorrow is the day when the Speaker of the House is officially elected by their peers. Jonathan Patterson and Justin Sparks are the two contenders. There has been a LOT of controversy over this as Patterson, who runs as a Republican is often taking a more liberal stance on red meat conservative issues – But there REAL issue here is the House Rules. The House Rules are voted on every two years when a new Speaker is elected. In the past 20 years, the House Rules have become seriously centralized to take power away from elected Representatives and place that power with the office of the House Speaker. This is part and parcel of why Missouri, with its Republican super majority never seems to get much done on issues conservatives have in their platform. Justin Sparks promises to change that if elected speaker. His promise is to de-centralize and give power back to the elected Representatives. I am not sure that Jonathan Patterson would be interested in doing this, at least not to the extent as promised by Sparks. There is a LOT more to this story that involves the power elite in Missouri and out of state interests (please tune in on the live stream on the 11th for more details). The power elite and out of state interests would like to see Patterson installed as House Speaker. A petition from REPACCMO can be signed by anyone wishing to see Sparks as Speaker. You can find the petition here. Please read the petition, even if you don’t want to sign it. This is part of the painful process Missouri must go through eventually to give the power back to the people through their elected Representatives. For reasons of full disclosure, I did sign the petition on behalf of myself only. If you want to support Justin Spark’s bid for the Speakership, you have only tonight and tomorrow morning to do so.
To contact your rep, here is the House Roster to find their phone number/email address.
Every New Year brings hope that things will change in Jefferson City and that the government will be more responsive to the people of Missouri. With this in mind, we need to remember that everyone who serves is human and every human makes mistakes. Determining the motivations for actions is important in the political realm but often difficult to discern. We are all products of the choices we make in our lives. That is EXACTLY why everyone is unique and different from one another. As much as it is important to point out mistakes by a politician, it is also important to recognize when they do the right thing, which is something that is easy to forget.
I will try to make it to the Capital tomorrow but won’t know if I can actually go until very late tonight.
I want to let folks know that we are still having problems e-mailing everyone currently on the Yahoo and Aol domains. As a reminder, every email I send out is put on the blog section of our website. So if you have missed any e-mails, you can always read the latest on our website. These problems happen when folks join the email list and then report the emails I send out as spam. Many organizations have moved to text messaging because of this malicious practice used by folks who disagree with constitutional/conservative messages and/or information via e-mail and yet, sign up to receive the e-mails.
That’s all for now gang. May God Bless our mission to instill more freedom and liberty in the State of Missouri.
May God bless us all with good health and with wisdom and courage.
Yours for liberty,
Patrick Holland
